I love St. Louis — this city, the people, places, culture. I’ve lived in this iconic place for more than a decade now, and I’ve met some phenomenal people along the way. I recently had the opportunity to shoot these Busch Stadium engagement photos with Doug and Rachel. How can you get more St. Louis than that?! They seriously couldn’t have been a more perfect St. Louis couple. Like me, this couple loves this city and everything it has to offer.
I’m so thankful for all that it’s given me over the years, namely:
The St. Louis Cardinals
If you know anything about me, you know that I love Cardinals baseball. It’s borderline obsession, to be honest. I spend a ton of time (and money) watching my team play. It’s funny, because for awhile, I lived in Kansas City. Of course I was a Cards fan, so I’ve never really experienced several bad baseball years. I was in KC when the Royals started blossoming, and as exciting as it was to see the homers cheer for their team, I couldn’t help but think that this is how we get to feel in St. Louis all the time — elated for our winning team.
I’m not just a fairweather, or October fan, either. I love putting on my red T-shirt or jersey and going out in this city knowing I will definitely find someone to share a conversation with who loves the Cardinals as much as I do. That said, when the only “must” on Doug and Rachel’s list of places to visit was Busch Stadium, I was thrilled. Both are huge fans, but Doug especially loves the team. It’s always nice to have a connection with the groom. I know that these photos mean the world to him. It was incredible to spend the day with a couple who are as big of Cardinals fans as I am.
Doug, Rachel and I went to a spot near the arch, a half-mile long wall covered in graffiti. It changes every month as artists paint over it constantly. People drive by to see the wall, which is a part of St. Louis that the average person doesn’t know about. It’s a diamond in the rough, beautiful and hidden in the old industrial part of town. On one side, you can see the past in these huge, majestic buildings that are all idle, dormant and rundown after years of being empty and neglected. On the other side, you can see the present and the future. You can see how the city has developed and it’s just this amazing representation of everything that is St. Louis.
For this engagement session, we trekked to The Grove. I love this place. It’s artsy and out of the box. There are some great restaurants, brews and cool buildings. One of my goals this year is to explore different parts of the city, so I love when I have an adventurous couple who don’t mind exploring alongside with me. I enjoy incorporating the couple’s taste into these edgy scenes. We had so much fun exploring and getting to know each other. On wedding day, working together will be second nature, with genuine smiles and smooth sailing to the very end.
For me, Doug and Rachel’s engagement session was so representative of my style. It was rejuvenating. I found myself falling in love with St. Louis all over again. I get to be a sports fan and see these awesome fields and arenas (Let’s go Blues!). I feel lucky to experience cold winters and see spring blossoms. I get to see incredible infrastructure and take advantage of things so many people take for granted, all here in this Midwestern city that I now call home. Man I love this place and I love this beautiful couple. Here’s to Doug and Rachel, and may they have many, many years of love and happiness!
