I am obsessed with pregnancies. I think maternity is such a beautiful time in the lives of a couple, but particularly for the woman. The idea that she is growing a human being, nourishing and caring for the child inside of her is magical to me. Of course, the “magic” of pregnancy can be explained away by science, but this is different. Being a mother is the ultimate selfless act. That’s why, when I have the opportunity to photograph a pregnant couple, I revel in it.
Nicole & Matt
I met Nicole & Matt playing volleyball a couple years ago. I feel so fortunate and truly honored that the people I play sports with and interact with in daily trust me to capture the most important milestones in their lives. Nicole and Matt are as sweet as can be. They’re cotton candy, maple syrup sweet. At one point, I was chatting with Matt while Nicole was in the other room getting her hair done and he said something that made my heart melt. When I asked him what he preferred to wear, he said he would wear whatever I wanted him to wear. He say that the photo session was about Nicole and that he just wanted for her to have a great day and be happy. But it wasn’t as much what he said as how he said it. His voice was one of love, of openness and selflessness. It was genuine and incredibly beautiful.
I loved every minute of Matt and Nicole’s session. They really were the perfect clients. Both were receptive to my ideas. They took all of my recommendations to heart and followed every single one.
I couldn’t help but imagine Matt as a father — any time now — and how amazing the two of them will be as parents. I see their love for each other in their eyes, their smiles and their kind words to and about one another. It was really clear that they want the best for each other. I’m so thankful this couple welcomed me into their lives and their home to document this next chapter in their story. But most of all, I can’t wait to meet the baby and see these two blossom into the most amazing parents. And I know it’s trite, but the old adage rings true. . . The best is yet to come!
